Dear Olen Family Members,
I will email some photos of the event that brought us to Pittsburgh, the wedding of Vanessa Vendetti and Matthew Hronas.
What a wonderful and blessed occasion that was to attend a “church” wedding, and to meet Matthew’s family and Vanessa and Matthew’s many friends in Pittsburgh. It was great also to see Debbie with Vanessa and to visit with Dennis who lives in Scottsdale.
On Sunday, September 23, Terry and I, Paul and Mary Jane, and Debbie took a tour of family places in Pittsburgh.
Before leaving, I compiled a list of addresses of places to visit and went to Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh on Friday to look up addresses from a 1950 telephone book.
We started our tour with a visit to the graves of Jean and Ralph Schlossnagel, Uncle Eddy’s sister and brother in law. From there we went to North Fairmount street and met the current owner of the house occupied by Grandpa Adolph and family. Across the street was the house of my Grandparents, Harry and Sarah Bishirjian. The current owner was delighted to meet someone from “the past” and wanted to know what those barrels in the basement were for. We next visited Uncle Walter’s house and from there we visited Mt. Royal Cemetery and the graves of the Olens. Debbie placed flowers at the grave site. At that point, we were hungry and had a bite to eat at a wonderful little restaurant.
Next we headed to Bigelow Blvd. where I lived with my parents from about 1946 to 1958. A family photo which I sent all Olen family members was taken in front of the oriental rug store. Everyone is in that photo! The store is now a restaurant. On the way, we drove past First Trinity.
